What I do with
your data

Three forms and a Stripe checkout. I collect the least I can get away with, I don't sell any of it, and nobody's email leaves my hands.

Below is what each form takes, where it goes, and how to make me delete it. Updated July 30, 2026.

The list signup, on the FOIA page

Your email, your state, and an agency if you filled that in. It goes to beehiiv, which runs my newsletter. The state and the agency sit on your subscriber record so I know where people actually are and which state to file in next.

If you came in from a video the link had ?v= and ?p= on the end, and those ride along as the source. That tells me a signup came from TikTok and which video did it. There is an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email and it works.

The report-back form

This one stores the most. Agency, city, state, what you asked for, the dates, how it went, the fees, the exemption they cited, whether you appealed, and your notes. Your email if you left one, and a name if you wanted credit. It goes into a database on Cloudflare.

The report page spells out what gets published and what never does. Short version, agencies get named and people don't.

The agency nomination form

Agency, city, state, up to 300 characters about them, and your email if you want to hear back. Same database. That email does not go on the newsletter list. If all you did was name an agency, that's all you did.

Paying a records fee

Stripe handles it. You land on a page Stripe hosts, and I never see your card number or your billing address. What comes back to me is an amount, a date, and whatever email you gave Stripe for the receipt.

What I don't do with it

I don't sell it, rent it, trade it, or hand it to anybody. No ad networks and no data brokers. There is no analytics product on this site and no tracking pixel.

I don't store your IP address. The only location thing I keep is the two-letter country code Cloudflare stamps on the request, so I can tell a report from Michigan apart from one from outside the country.

Who else touches it

beehiiv holds the newsletter list. Cloudflare serves the site and holds the database. Stripe takes the payments. Google serves the fonts, which means Google sees your browser ask for them. Those four have their own privacy policies and I don't control any of them.

How long I keep it

The newsletter list until you unsubscribe. Report and nomination rows until the project is done or you ask me to pull yours, whichever lands first. I don't have a fixed retention schedule and I'm not going to pretend I do.

Getting it back out

Email mags@magneticnorse.com and say what you want gone. Newsletter, a report, a nomination, all of it. I'll pull it out of the working data.

The one thing I can't undo is something already published in a video, because I can't un-publish a video. That's what the report page says and it's still true here.

Kids

None of this is built for anyone under 13 and I'm not knowingly collecting anything from them.

If this changes

I'll change this page and move the date at the top. I'm not going to email everybody about a wording fix.
